newer UT-300RTU provided by bsnl comes with a custom stripped down firmware which does not have port forwarding only DMZ.

ok in the broadband main menu page, I see 3 type-I Starcom modems-> UT-300R-> UT-300R2-> UT-300R2Uwhich one's the recommended one among them? Are you referring to the R2U?EDIT: oh, so what's the modem I should ask for then?

if you have one PC then DMZ is better than port forwarding...:)

I asked them for the Siemens modem, but they say its not available here in my area. I'll try to insist for it & see what happens... meanwhile if its not available which one of the Starcom ones should I go for?

i have no idea about other starcom but if you are OK with DMZ(with no port forward) then only take UT-300RTU.also you mentioned 3 types of starcom modems but in my view bsnl should provide you with only the latest model which is UT-300RTU as almost all the users i know who recently got connection & got the starcom modem their model was UT-300RTU.

please dont go with UT300R2U its a waste.. it has nothing... it only gives you problems..better to go with Huawei smartAX MT 800 or 880 or 841
