IMO, Airtel HD fee is like access fee for the HD feature irrespective of how many channels in has or plan to add. But in the case of TS HD, it charges the HD fee based on channels it has and increase the price as it adds more HD channels.

The phrase: "As of now, subscribers will get access to ESPN's HD feed of the FIFA World Cup for Rs 99, but we will add other HD channels over the next few months," could mean either access fee for 'all HD channels' is Rs. 90 or Rs. 90 for ESPN HD only. not very clear at the moment. So waiting for official launch on their website etc + addition of new HD channels will answer these questions

Rs.99/- just for one HD event without any HD channels in their pack is very costly.

Yes that too this channel is not Full HD it is only for this event that it is providing HD.

thats really bad

i think AIRTEL,TATA didn't have the infrastructure like ZEE,SUN and suddenly when WORLD CUP came and ZEE,SUN strted advertising AIRTEL,TATA felt left out so they borrowed the signals only for the WORLD CUP

Infact for dth penetration ESPN took the step and decided to provide HD feed of the World Cup to Dish TV, Airtel DTH and Tata Sky. Tata Sky is out with HD and is well equipped for bringing in more channels.

SUN HD,DISH TV were allowed HD from governemnt

TATA SKY HD was declined as TATA didn't have the infrastructure.

no idea about AIRTEL but they came late

I think other than Airtel, all are providing channels other than ESPN HD world cup feed and their own feed. Airtel may not be having agreement in place for NatGeo HD and Discovery HD. Thats why its not providing these channels right now and may be working on it.ESPN HD feed is available till July 12th. So Airtel is in a situation to bring in other HD channels before that. Otherwise its HD is not marketable after July 12th.The mega pack of Airtel is ~300. So Rs.100 can not be charged for a single HD channel alone all the way in future. Thats why I think this Rs.100 is an access fee for HD feature irrespective of the number of HD channels.
