i think in the modem.you will get 2 lan icons in syatem tray one is your computer lan having IP address something like 192.168.x.x & other one is bsnl(if your connection name is bsnl) having IP address 117.x.x.x.i think it means modem assign a local IP address range to your PC NIC while modem itself gets WAN address from bsnl.
see,can any1 tell me what is the big deal if i use bridge mode??i hav been using it for 1 month and i c my connection is getting disconnected frequently..it doesnt happen when iam in 'always on' mode.. cant i use 'always on' mode to schedule my downloads?? i had seen earlier posts saying that bsnl sometimes included 2-8 usage, if one were logged bfore 2am and continued 2 be online till 2...i dont think this happens 2 me..so what if i used the router mode??guys, whats ur take??
In bridge mode the IP is assigned to the software virtual adapter known as PPPoE adapter through which the connnection is dialled i.e your PC gets the IP assigned. And the modem just does the traffic forwarding work ( like in a bridge)
In router mode, your modem gets the IP and it routes the traffic like a router, thats why you can use multiple PC's in this type.
thanx fpr all ur response i think firearm12's comment is exact because in bridge mode connection if u chk the ipconfiguration u will get two ip (if statically assigned) one is 192.168.1.X and othe is wan ip showing ppoe adapter. i hv one more doubt in ipconfig i am getting mac address for ppoe adapter. which is it?
