I am using BSNL wired broadband in Uttarakhand and I have a terracom adsl2 wireless router.

I am on Ubuntu 14.04 OS. It was working yesterday after I went to the local BSNL office and they reset my settings. When I shutdown the BSNL modem in the night and I log back in the morning although the internet is working the broadband is not working. This is true for desktop(Linux) and laptop(windows) as well. The green internet button is working and the lineman assures there is no problem with connection.

I cannot access the 192.168.1.1 page. Windows says cannot connect to adapter.

I would be happy if somebody can do either skype support or telephonic support. I will be happy to call. At this point I am at my wit's end and I am not sure where the problem is. The Ubuntu people assure that there is no problem from their side.

So I used Airtel some months ago and that was working just fine. I have a DHCP connection.
I need someone who has tackled this problem before and knows what software to install(firmware) and who will walk through me the steps. Preferably a networking engineer.
Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Ubuntu.

But, enter 192.168.1.1 manually in adapter settings in network. Try logging in to the router settings after that. I think somehow Ubuntu is not able to connect with the router through DHCP. Hence, try to go the manual way and then see if DHCP in router is set to automatic or not.

Need to know :

a. How do your connect to internet ?

Do you plugin in the LAN cable from modem to your desktop / laptop ?

b. Status of LEDs in modem

Make sure lights on modem are as before.

ie, those blinks, blinks. That are stable is stable

Dilip - I will answer all your questions

1) All the LEDs in modem are fine. They all have green light and are stable
2) I connect to internet just as you described by plugging in the LAN cable from desktop to modem
3) I cannot access the 192.168.1.1. page.

By the way Saurav I cannot connect via Windows on my laptop either. The 192.168.1.1 page is not visible. That is the problem.

The second problem is when I switch off and go to sleep and wake up in the morning I cannot log into the system. I experience this problem.

In Windows laptop, right click on your adapter > Properties > select TCP/IP4, click on properties button. Post the screen shot here.

PS : Does your modem has WiFi ?

PS 2: Which desktop environment do you use ? Unity / Gnome / Cinnamon

Should I download this firmware - http://www.motive.bsnl.co.in/ ?
