@sankalpit: im guessing the JTO is confused and ended up misinforming you... i doubt they will do such a dumb move - lawsuits will flow like wine then...

assuming they do not have the loophole in the original contract signed up with customers?

Today in afternoon I called my local exchange, JTO informed me that all users are being transferred to new plans. Not will be, are. As in, right now even as we speak.
I'm sure they will inform us, but when? People will run up massive bills at their new rates.
The only reason I keep the connection is because of NU. Without it even a 256k unlimited is better.

Point duly noted. A BSNL JTO's ability to become confused and spread confusion is never to be underestimated. However, he was quite convinced and confident. Besides, there's this notification on data.bsnl.in portal about name change for existing plans, so we just have to wait for a more official announcement which will settle the finer details.

lawsuits will flow like wine then...
Crucially, BSNLs T&C do not mention about BSNL reserving the right to change plans whenever they see fit. However, we also know they are a sarkari operation, so the court will side with them and interpret that it is 'understood' that BSNL reserves all rights other than those explicitly granted while signing for service. And sadly, BSNL never promised that it will not change or discontinue its existing plans in future.

I don't think we should worry about this month. BSNL moves quite slowly (as we all know), so it will take them some days before the new plans and usage policy is announced. Next month will be tricky, they will either change plans midway during billing cycle (god help us) or wait for the end of billing cycle and force the migration on undecided users from Novermber. Let's see.

Just my 2 cents:

all are being transferred to new plans

Which are those plans? Till now only 5 of the plans have been renamed but no any info about change of tariff of the existing plans.

Removing NU/charging at 0.4 per mb is a huge move backwards. Even the occasional night downloaders will be badly hit.

I dont think that case of Massive billing will happen. Because if its similar to Airtel FUP then speeds will reduce but charges wont be extra.

Which are those plans?
Plans like BB 500 instead of Home 500, and so on.

I never asked about any tariff change, and JTO did not inform me of any tariff change either. The issue for me is night unlimited and new usage limit which will drastically restrict the amount of data we can transfer from our connection, not tariff. I don't know any more details, but it is clear to me something is cooking in the background. Let us wait and see what they announce officially (and when).

In the meantime, I am watching these three places like a hawk:

[*]This forum.
[*]BSNL Broadband Tariff.
[*]Dataone portal.
