BSNL Broadband Heavy packet loss & Slow speed Due to Cable Cut in Middle East

totally true.
i love the speeds we get on indian server hosted websites. and i had like the same speeds on this forum.
but sadly, the quality of service and support is terrible and the prices are awesomely high.
The funny thing is that US did not start out with significantly more bandwidth. They just continue to offer lower and lower rates. These rates have long ceased to be of any relation to their international bandwidth, This creates a vicious circle since people prefer to host in US, which fuels more growth and bandwidth in US.
Even with present bandwidth levels, if Indian companies like Reliance and Tata offered same rates as US counterparts, at the very least websites which receive majority of traffic from India would prefer to host in India. This will actually help the companies as it cuts on the international gateway traffic which is the real expense, not the domestic bandwidth.

weird, but whenever the cables go down the internet speed in my area increases, same as last year...

must be because we live in the south and traffic gets routed through Chennai :yahoo:. I am on Airtel,Bangalore and same experience i am reasonably (1.2mbps on 2mbps plan
) unaffected this time, last december i had slightly slow speeds for 2-4 days then it was ok.
Regarding speed increase, with so many users offline the rest i think get better speeds.

I am facing a strange problem from yesterday. I often download software from file hosting services like link-removed, link-removed, Easy-share, Letitbit, Defositfile, ... etc. But from mid yesterday whenever I am trying to download (through IE or through downloaders like USD etc) either the download failing or downloading at very very low speed. Normally I get 60 - 120 KB/s for link-removed, 120 - 200 KB/s for easy-share, 30-40 KB/s for others. But now I am hardly getting 3-4 KB/s speed! 
I asked few friends outside India and they said all working well. So my guess is - it may be a problem with BSNL or BSNL Kolkata. I would request all Indian/ Kolkata based forum members to post here if they facing same kind of problem. Please cooperate. Thanks
