feel free to do it. i really can't make anything out of the above instructions... :|[/b]

Let me know if somebody wants to volunteer to post this there. Otherwise, I will do it ... but after a few days time. I am a bit busy these few days.

I am happy to see that there are some Linux users out there using BSNL Boradband.

I use Debain stable on my laptop.

Lately (in fact for more than a month) I have been having trouble with DNS on BSNL. It either takes very long or times out altogether. For example my own institute site times out completely (The IMSc Home Page) . Other sites are available but take a long time. OTOH from other sites I can easily access my office site above.

There have been suggestions that one should switch to some 'open' DNS service rather than that of BSNL. Any suggestions. I can't even find a number/email to complain to BSNL (http://chennai.bsnl.co.in is inaccessible today).
:(

whoever puts it up, be also aware that just like Sushubh mentioned there are going to lot of newbies who wouldn't know what the commands or term means for e.g. plog, pppoeconf, pon, poff, there would need to be atleast 2-3 pages explaining how things fit with each other. Otherwise its not going to make sense to lot of people. I would have loved to document all this, but right now i'm busy with triaging bugs with gutsy gibbon ( feisty +1 ) alongwith filing bugs upstream among all host of other things. Keep up the good work guys :)

Please Help me

Your LAN card's IP address is 192.168.1.1. I am not familiar with the modem you are using, but a little google search tells me that the modem's LAN ip address is also 192.168.1.1.

When you ping that IP address, you are just pinging your own LAN card. Using the network GUI, change your LAN card's IP address to something else, e.g. to 192.168.1.10, and try the setup again.

Good luck.

HI, I am on Ubuntu Linux, (2.6.20-15) and using UT-300R2U modem. The actual problem is when I try to download big files via torrent or by internet then the ethernet connection freezes and comes to 0. and have to restart the computer to make it working. This happens after 50-55mb of data download, every 8-10 minutes. Don't know what is the problem. It works great while browsing long time also. If I download files after some breaks then it is fine but it freezes only when I try to download constantly... stop at about 50mb downloading..system information:OS: Ubuntu 7.04, Linux kernel 2.6.20ethernet card: Intex, hangzhou silan microelectronics ltd, sc92031 chipsetmodem: UT-300R2URAM: 256MBCPU: P III , 933MHzThanks in advance

Hi all,I want to connect through my USB port, so what should I need to do?my modem is UT-300R2Uos is Ubuntu 7.04, Linux kernel 2.6.20I tried to install drivers provided with the dataone cd but it gives me error messages. Anybody have drivers for that then please post it.Thanks

Dear Max,I want to connect through ethernet, but ubuntu doesn't detect my ethernet card. and the cd provided with the card has the driver for linux kernel 2.4.x and 2.5.x and don't have the drivers for thatEthernet card is : Intex, hangzhou silan microelectronics ltd, sc92031 chipsetIf anybody have the driver for that card please provide it, for linux kernel 2.6.xthanksactuall made some changes in driver files and it is now working.. but there are error messages while installing, I think there might be some hardware conflict and now I am having frequent disconnections, after every 50mb of downloading..may be correct driver will solve this problem.. so if anybody have the driver for that please post it...mailed to manufacturer but in vain!! never replied..

Hello,

After a few minutes of downloading (and before your connection hangs), what is the output of the following command in a terminal:
$> /sbin/ifconfig -a
