Hello Members,I generally download using torrent sites. My torrent client is utorrent. I have also forwarded one port. I would need to know is there any security risk involved in port forwarding and how to take precaution to avoid any kind of security threat? I don't know much about networking and internet, so your help is highly appreciated. Thanks and sorry, if this topic has already been discussed (though I serched the site before posting.).

Hello nsdeepak,
For setting up static ip for your computer, you can go through this web page-
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
You can also use OpenDNS which is safer and faster. Just put the following values in the Preferred and Alternate DNS field respectively.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
For more details visit OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet and check whether you have set up your OpenDNS properly at welcome.opendns.com. You should see a Right mark if you have set your DNS properly.
For port forwarding you first need to go through the user manual of your modem. And also search Google for more help.

Hi ppl,

I m trying to port forward the utorrent, but i m failing every time. please help me out.

I setup a static ip address for my self. i googled a lot to find port forwarding, but i didnt get proper procedure to do. here are some detail n the way i tried,

>> my modem is " PRONET PN-ASDL 101E/U

>> i set my connection with a static IP. n the net is working properly.

>> i tried to port forward by selecting advance setup > NAT > Virtual server

>> in virtual server i clicked on add button.

from i here i need guide how to continue further,,,,,,,

i have a option called "select the service " - where i doesnt find any Utorrent.
so i selected the option " custom server " - typed there as 'Utorrent'

nxt at the bottom it ask for 'external port start' and 'external port end ' and 'protocol' and 'internal port start' and 'internal port end ' which i dont have any idea.

i tried in u torrent to find port number, in Utorrent ,in preference i got a random port number . which i tried n later tested for speed test in option....
and as usual i failed like every time.

even someone said that "close thread mods" does any one knows what does this means.

so please help me out ppl.:(
