Bsnl broadband -- urgent help needed

So far i have been using reliance broadband. just a few days ago, got my net connection( 256 k unlimited plan) from bsnl. they came installed a moden (ZTE ZXDSL 831 Modem ) and then over phone gave me a password and username. Trouble is i am unable to connect to the net. Any idea what to do to get online ?? I spoke to bsnl , they said they will be sending someone to fix it but it has been 4 days and they haven't yet send anyone.Also when the modem is on, the red light(power) as well as the green light(PC/USB) is on.The DSL light(amber) is flashing and so is the internet light. the modem is connected to the ethernet port of the computer. Using intel's G33 chipset and the network adaptor is intel 82562V-2 10/100 network connection.Pls. help. I don't know much abt. these things as this is the first time i am using something other than reliance wireless connectionSo do any of you guys know how to set up an internet connection? BTW, i am using windows vista.

start run type ipconfig report start run type netstat report Start network/lan properties /TCP/Ip properties.select assign automatic IP DNS and try.( I am having XP Pro sp2 )

assign the ip address in lan setting. ip-192.168.1.3subnetmask :255.255.255.0gateway 192.168.1.1dns supplied by bsnlgo to ie ,enter ip adddress as 192.168.1.1enter the username and password as given in manual or default username ZXDSL pwd ZXDSL.click on wan tab,select ppp and select addppp interface ppp0atm vc-aal5-2 vpi-0 vci-35 protocol-pppoe,mux-llc,enable-dns,natsecurity-pap,give your isp username and pwd,then submit. go to admin,then commit and reboot.

BTW, i am using windows vista.
i had a similar problem which was resolved by JTO after checking my PC,he spoke to some 1 in bsnl and then told me a different password than the one supplied earlier which was wrong as per him? This i believe is because of the new equipment [Bnagalore] ? Check with your JTO for help! best of luck

@sanoj It is an USB modem.1.Did you get the drivers Cd from BSNL ?2. Are you using a dialer ?You have to enter the ID and Password and dial. No telephone number required. 3. Check up in Device Manager ( Pro) status of network adapter. 4. Better ask for them for a Type 1 modem with LAN port.Even my xpPro Sp2 rejects the hardware Zyxcel. No idea about VISTA.A lan connection is always better, with an ethernet card in your computer.Tell BSNL your computer crashes and change the modem.

essbebe , this modem has both usb and LAN port. it is connected to my computer's ethernet port. Network adapter is working fine. ya i am using a dialer and i did enter username and password.thing is vista is not even detecting the network. And like i said both the dsl light and internet light are flashing. Well JAS, vista is not even detecting a network here.(i get a local only.i.e. no internet icon on my computer.) So i am not too sure whether a new password will be the solution to my problems. But anyway i have talked to the JTO .he said he will be coming tomorrow. So let's see what happens.
