BSNL Broadband: VMC AN1020-21 download stops every few seconds

I have a BSNL Dataone Home500 plan with night(2am - 8am) unlimited, BSNL promises 2mbps download speed, City : Pune.

I was using Huawei Smartax MT880 ADSL router with my desktop very happily.
After I purchased laptop with wifi I decided to switch to type II wireless router, BSNL gave me VMC AN1020-21 router. BSNL Engineer came to my house did the wiring and configured the router, laptop and desktop. Configurations:-

Configuration in new(VMC AN1020-21) router 192.168.1.1
Internet Configuration
VPI : 0, VCI : 35, Service Category: UBR with PCR
Encapsulation Type : LLC/SNAP, Encapsulation Mode : Bridged
Obtain IP Address Automatically, Enable NAT : ON, Add default route : ON
Always On with username and password

LAN Configuration
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
MTU : 1500
DNS Client Primary : 218.248.241.4 Secondary : 218.248.241.5

Configuration for Desktop PC TCP/IP
IP Address : 192.168.1.26
Primary DNS : 218.248.240.208
Secondary DNS : 218.248.255.192


Problem is that the internet light on AN1020-21 router always blinks, and download stops every few seconds with significant drop in speed and download time with avg downlaod rate of 1-2 MB/min. Whenever I change back to the old router (SmartAX MT880) there is no such problem and I get avg download rate of 9-10 MB/min. Average Speedtest.net results for both old and new routers are:
Router, Ping(ms), Download(mbps), upload(mbps)
Old, 62 ms, 1.62 mbps, 0.16 mbps
New, 144 ms, 0.19 mbps, 0.10 mbps

i also face d same prob..i took d modem to bsnl, they say der is no prob wat so ever. n they are OK wid dat drop..this thing is irritating me nw..planning to get some other router. shitty service frm their officials.i tried showing dem wid my old modem also..

(a)Change MTU to 1492.
(b)Why different DNS. enter one pair in modem ( advanced options DNS page ) all four in New Delhi.
(c) uncheck last two boxes. DSL page.

Select top two only., Gdmt and T413,keep Adsl2+ annex M disabled.

^^ i think only the first two need enabling. You should select ADSL2/ADSL2+ only when the connection is super stable.

thats right. there is dearth of new-age dudes in bsnl. tech jargon is greek to one & all in bsnl.

G.DMT+T1.413 (ADSL1) should easily give you a stable 2mbps connection.
