BSNL Broadband's new revolutionary (lol) broadband plans with minimum 2mbps speeds (lol)

i think the settings are outside the forum view.

Only last year has TRAI raised minimum broadband speed from 256 kbps to 512 kbps. And in 2007 TRAI had set minimum broadband speed at 256 Kbps. We probably had 128 kbps as minimum broadband speed before 2007.

So we're not stuck at 512 Kbps since 10 years. 512 kbps is a luxury we just got last year.

Many people don't remember that TRAI wanted to set 2 Mbps as minimum speed since 2009. They recommended a road map by which 2 Mbps had to be made minimum broadband speed by Jan 2015. But all they could do was raising the minimum broadband speed to 512 kbps in 2014.
Let me correct a point. It was in 2012(Dec) or Jan(2013) the minimum speed was increased to 512 Kbps and they were supposed to increase it to 2 Mbps in January this year.

You completely missed my point that its been almost 10 years since internet was readily made available,i remember 2007 128 kbps for 700 Rs connect broadband. So after 8 years with more people taking up broadband and revenues going up almost multiple folds, you are saying 512 kbps is a luxury?

I made my point earlier if anyone do want to live in 2007- 2009 then its their choice and can brand it as luxury.

Anyone who tries to justify these telecom companies (except a few private ones who provide good plans) is naive and not thinking clearly.

Internet nowadays is not a luxury,it is a neccessity.

I don't want to go into all this filthy discussion. So i leave it here and will see what happens on Oct 1.

TRAI notification to raise minimum speed from 256 to 512 kbps came in 2014.

Trai increases minimum broadband speed to 512kbps - The Times of India

Everybody know that TRAI raised minimum speed just last year. I am surprised to know that you're not aware of that. And telecom companies massively raised tariffs last year claiming that TRAI is forcing them to raise minimum broadband speed.

Airtel hikes fixed-line broadband tariffs by up to 40% in phases

And i am not defending telecom companies. I am just talking about ground reality of our internet. I don't think internet is a luxury. Its the Govt of India which thinks internet is a luxury.

It was just a policy recommendation about minimum speed without framework for real implementation. It also says raising 2 Mbps by 2015. That doesn't mean anything.

The actual notification which forced telecom companies to raise speed to 512 kbps came in 2014.
