BSNL Broadband's new revolutionary (lol) broadband plans with minimum 2mbps speeds (lol)

I don't think it will be done at a one go in 2020. I think TRAI will raise minimum speed to 1 Mbps within couple of years. Then to 2 Mbps by 2020.

Even so, if RJio provides good competition to Airtel. The minimum speed will increase even without TRAI notification. Many cities like Hyderabad already have 2 Mbps speeds.

In 2014 and before that, internet market was dominated and monopolized by Airtel. Things may change if RJio is a success.

I must've mixed it with actual implementation.I still remember back in jan 2013 that the speed was increased to 512 kbps without any notice and read a few articles that itself said "TRAI increases minimum speed to 512 Kbps".
Must've not read thoroughly though.

While we are at it,this further solidifies that the speed increase will be for pre FUP only.

This has to be one of the biggest trolls this year.I'm pretty sure this will be boasted by Government. *SIGH*
 
Even before notification in 2014 to raise minimum speed to 512 kbps and policy recommendations in 2012. TRAI was proposing minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbps since 2009.

Unlike our politicians, TRAI is pretty much aware that 512 Kbps speed is not enough for broadband. But their 2 Mbps proposal never materialized even after several years of continuous recommendation. So TRAI policy recommendations is useless unless they enforce it through Notification and Telecom Regulatory Act. (which they can do if they want) But then Telecom companies will start extorting big tariffs claiming that TRAI is forcing them to increase speeds. Same thing happened in 2014.
 
I was happy that something big is coming up, but lost the hope after seeing their FUP and my landline dead for 3 days :(
