BSNL Broadband's new revolutionary (lol) broadband plans with minimum 2mbps speeds (lol)

This thread is very much related to Modi's digital India mission. Fingers will be raised at the govt's wrongdoings that is for sure.

I had to close Twitter after Modi Ji starting talking about his tea selling days and how India has allowed a tea seller to become the prime minister of the largest democracy on this planet and how family is super important to him.

actually normal users download far lesser than 50GB. most people spend only 2-3 hrs daily on internet at home. even if they watch youtube for the whole time which by default streams only at 360p or less they can easily manage with around 20GB. you would be surprised to know the most number of users on ACT broadband here will be on A-Max 410 (1Mbps) & A-Max 650 (10 Mbps) plans. very few users opt for higher plans.

yup. most of the market is made up of moms and dads who are primarily tablet/smartphone users. the market for folks like me/us is relatively quite small. and i find it hard to believe that we can end up consuming so much bandwidth that companies like airtel who have their own international pipelines cannot afford to give reasonably priced plans.

Two things. Firstly, we must not generalize the use of internet by users. My recommendation of 20GB - 50GB -100GB is purely based on reasonable limits until significant progress is made in India's Broadband Infrastructure. We shouldn't judge that average user needs 3-4 hours of internet/youtube so 20 GB is enough. I find this argument very unconvincing. That's the logic by which BSNL and most Indian ISP's are operating.

Secondly, lets look at modern internet. People and much of the youth use torrents, download Movies/Games/Music etc. People wanna use Youtube in HD. Why stuck at 360P, people want better quality? People download updates for Games, Operating systems, software etc which are of significant size.

Average movie is around 1 GB these days. An Album is 300-400 MB in good bit rate. Average Game is around 20 GB. Updates and Patches for operating systems and Games can be as large as many GBs. That's a lot of Data.

20GB or 50 GB are by no means sufficient for present needs. But i would say, if India's network Infrastructure cannot afford to raise minimum speed to 2 Mbps. Then at least ISPs should raise FUP limits to reasonable capacity so that people can at least have some room for internet usage.

And if there won't be increase in minimum broadband speeds. There won't be increase in FUP limits. And internet will run on 1/3/6 GB FUP plans. Then India is going nowhere in 21st century.

Man my Airtel friends are very disappointed and they thought of switching to BSNL when 2 Mbps will be the minimum speed. Now no one will make a switch :D
