BSNL DataOne Broadband: does we really need limited plan

I only wish BSNL would make the night hours from 10.00P.M instead of the unearthly 2.00 A.M. It would help a lot. I get up in the morning to download files of more than 250 MB. Fortunately the U.S. Server (private) is very fast and I get excellent download speeds.

my appetite for downloads (legal/illegal) is full now...but i still want an unlimited connection with good speeds...reasons - - i want to watch online TV- i want to listen to online radio- i want to download linux distros (am new to linux and am loving it) so does that make me a bad guy? am i asking for too much?why can't the ISPs provide me with these simple tension-free services?

Demand-Supply will always rule over the personal wishes of a minority of customers. Simple plain economics.

PS, unrelated post: What is with people downloading Linux distros all the time? Call me crazy, but if a person is so fickle as to keep trying out distro after distro 12 months a year, maybe, just maybe, Linux isn't for him. Whatever happened to sticking to one which suits a person?

The war of economics....not exactly. The word has been mentioned at least 10 times over the last two days in various posts.Every person can get every thing he wants as long as -1. The thing he wants is available/ can be manufactured or acquired.2. He is willing to pay the price.If enough people demand something, in a 'free' market, there will be someone who considers the demand, sees if he can make a profit, and then makes it happen. Free market economics is not like Indian democracy - it does not run roughshod over demands of a 'minority' simply because they are so. If that were indeed the case - luxury goods would have no place in economic theory. It can't work magic, but it can certainly deliver stuff. Again, the caveat here is the talk about 'free' market economics, not our kind of economics.

ya, zoolander, businesses/isps in other countries must be really dumb. their management go to colleges like Harvard to get MBA and MIT to get engg degrees and then they do "silly" things like provide 10 mbps unlimited affordable plans for the silly minority customers ps: that was sarcasm in case someone didn't get it

i'd say we are way overdue for a 2mbps UL plan.With a high speed totally unlimited plan, we can use the net to its full extent. View video's online, suscribe to premium content that was too stupid to do so on a slow or capped line.If the isp's can uncork the full potential of broadband, we will have1) more people switching to it2) people getting so hooked on that they switch over to the unlimited or higher connections. I still remember a time when 'broadband' costed 1000bucks (for a 64kbps plan) and was meant for the elite! Those were times when email was something I thought was a once a month ritual and searching the net for information was what I did after checking out the local library!

Right now a lot of people think that internet is some costly thing for the elite. Most of the folks don't know what they can do online. People go to bank to get account statements, spend time as well as money on petrol and then pay parking fees and get an account statement. Once again they are charged Rs. 25 to Rs. 200 by banks for this statement. We need to have basic 256Kbps unlimited connection available for under 500/month to change the habits of the people. This will increase the productivity of our whole economy. Wonder what someone can do with 1-2 hours saved by avoiding a visit to bank? People will not move to internet unless there are unlimited connections available for a limited cost. I know some will argue that there is no need for anything above a 64Kbps connection with 50MB/month limit.

@topweb.You are right on spot !I have to renew my passport, and going online I got appointment on a fixed date and time, instead of standing in a serpentine queue!Only catch, a print out has to be taken . Ordinary application form will not be accepted.if you register on line.@vishalrao : I am on Home 250 1 GB plan. Why only Broadband ? why not cellphone/Telephones fixed/DTH/IPTV etc also all free?in Tamil Nadu Free TV set is being given to many , and next will be a desktop or laptop, with a free broadband connection unlimited usage !
