Hi, I am new to this forum. :D I have been using PSTN dialup for internet connection. I am thinking to switch to Dataone services. I am using Laptop Dell Inspiron -5160 and have in build Modem [Modem Internal 56k Modem for Inspiron]. For taking the Dataone connection, I will need a modem and a splitter/router. And BSNL is charging Rs. 2000/- for this. I guess, my in built Modem will work fine and I will need to buy only the Splitter from open market. Can anyone suggest me, what specification/configuration is required for the splitter. Which brand to go for.thanks,Gyan

Keep guessing.... LOLOr I would recommend you catch some techie person (friend/relative) to help you out... or browse the other parts of this forum for more info..there's also another site vinuthomas.com/forums but that has too much chatter in it...

Gyaaaaaaaann tum yahan bhi.... wokay I'll paste the same reply here as well

Gyan mere dost,

The modem you have in your Dell Insipiron is a Dial Up modem , and the modem you need for DataOne is a ADSL2+ modem. Both of them are based on different technologies alltogether, there is no way you can use the same for each other.

Just think, the modem that you have in your computer is a 56k modem and the connection offered by DataOne starts from 256k, how is your mode going to handle the speeds.......

My humble suggestion is go for the modem offered by BSNL, it's a DSL modem cum router and is good for the job. If you try to purchase a similar device from the market it'll anyway cost you > 2000 bucks.

If you feel reluctant in spending the 2k ... go for the modem rental plan, u need to spend a non refundable deposit of 500 bucks plus a monthly rental of 100 bucks...

I hope this helps

Guys, I'm facing a very weird prob....I stay at Pune. Broadband connection was given to me with appropriate username/password..I bough D-Link GLB 502 Router and configured my router correctly. I've tried Bridge/pppoe connection, but in any case my net fails to connect though the other lights excluding PPPoE i.e ADSL, STATUS, LAN are stable....I contacted BSNL, but they've not been able to figure out the problem yet. I went wid my laptop to Hadapsar Exchange (my area), it worked there..got connected in a whiz...but it ds nt wrk frm my home....BSNL guys checked up with Vertical line at junction box in my area but it failed to work there too, so it was atleast sorted out that the problem is not at my end. Coz, it ds nt connect at the junction box itself then getting connected at my home aint possible. Having figured out that they changed the Vertical line but still to my amusement it aint wrkin....They've literally tried all their tricks but just dont seem to get it working as their reputation persists :p. Last 25 days hjave been painstaking for me pursuing this issue but no positive results yielded yet :(.I even got the 'port binding' thing checked, but problem aint there too...Does anyone here have a probable solution to end my turmoil..I'll be really glad if someone here could help me out. Thnks pals!

Welcome to [email protected] send screen shot diagnostics page. glb 502(T). 2.Try with their modem. Your laptop worked in Exchange with which modem ? 3.Ask them to send report, BB not activated and you are not charged for this month !!!

also, which modem did they use at junction box which failed? (just to isolate modem or line problem)
