BSNL- fibre broadband plans - FTTH at last

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

Just take at look at this guys ... bsnl's FTTH plans .... 100 Mbps for Rs.83999:huh:

As always with bsnl once more they have come up with a big flop:irock:.... who would want to pay 83999 for broadband for a month.....:madness:

lol those are for Business man........... more over u need Fiber2ether converter ... or and router capable of OFC ....

One more thing ... price got its adavantages .......... latency would be with in 100 ms round the globe ....

that was cheap plan as far my things goes .... because 64kbps leased line costs about 10,000 it seems .... that's a far better plan to offer .........

It is like bulk package for retailers. 100mbps can be divided in 100 connections of 1mbps unlimited each, thus the average 1 mbps line could cost Rs 839/-. I think BSNL will surly reduce the price upto 50,000/- pm or so in near future.

They provide optical network terminator and you will get refund of the deposit for ONT if it is returned in working condition. ONT is the demarcation point where optical fiber terminates and a regular ethernet cable will run to your modem/router.

I heard this was supposed to start in Pune but Pune's city council or whatever wouldn't permit it... so... what's the coverage area?

84,000 for 100 mbps :O........hayai has got 100 mbps plans for nearly 11000 a month  and that too without fair usage policy....biggest question is what is the reason for such a huge difference in price ??? :D.....tat reminds me of the run of the mill
question....when is the launch Hayai !!!

1. Competition never hurt, but at that pricing it's not very competitive. I am not concerned (at these prices) that they'll really affect our potential to obtain customers much. They're still making the error of charging for every single GB that could possibly be transferred in a month. At 83k a month we're talking ~8Tbytes (actually... probably closer to ~16Tbytes at the prices BSNL gets on wholesale international bandwidth... of course, not counting the cost of laying fiber but I digress).

2. Am currently having a bitch at the DoT on that. Official documentation from DoT that my new lawyers have been kind enough to supply me copies of states that device approval is supposed to take max 30 days only! It's now been nearly 4 months since I selected the new CPEs!

1. They provide ONT already, you don't need to buy additional equipment. Of course, nice that BSNL can get their hands on equipment easily
2. No it wouldn't. That would defy the laws of physics. 250ms is more realistic depending on how where the opposite side of the world actually is - AFAIK we're talking... somewhere on the GMT-0630 timezone which suggests central America (Eastern Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Western Brazil or Saskatchewan...)
3. FTTH still has contention - can't be compared to a leased line which doesn't.

I would imagine that there is a clause in the contract forbidding resale without permission.

I would imagine that their ONT includes the router, though I would have to check what they're using to be sure - you could use your existing router if it's ethernet/wifi only, but not if it's designed for ADSL.

The Hindu : Cities / Vijayawada : BSNL special drive to give FTTH connections

The FTTH allowed consumers to utilise HD TV, 3D TV, VoD and IPTV integrated with internet, phone line with just one connection. High data speed of up to 1 GB per second could be provided to FTTH subscribers, but the rent for that kind of service would be Rs.33,000 per month.
I don't know whether he meant unlimited.. but if it is... then 1Gbps is for 33k.

In other packages data speed of 2MB per second would be available to subscribers at monthly rent of Rs.1,300, he said. It will cost the corporation Rs.12,000 to give a new FTTH connection, but BSNL would not collect it from the subscribers.
Does It mean 2Mbps unlimited for Rs1,300?

I LOLed.

I am Cross checking with the Earlier PR of BSNL. How can they offer cheap FTTH 2mbps for Rs1,300.Either I understood Wrongly or the article is Crap.
