BSNL IFTV: A first for India, BSNL's fiber-based intranet TV service offers 500+ live channels and Pay TV through its FTTH network. This service will be accessible for all BSNL FTTH subscribers without additional charges. The data used for the TV viewing will not be consuming the FTTH Data pack.

Its IPTV, why are they calling it IFTV
IPTV (Internet IPTV) - can be accessed from any network. Also, Data usage will be counted here. For e.g. Jiotv
IFTV (Intranet IPTV) - can be accessed using provider (in this case BSNL) internet only. No data usage will be counted here

IPTV the original version runs on local network. Does not use internet. And it runs on ISPs set top box and not through apps.

It's called internet PROTOCOL TV. It doesn't use internet itself.

Bsnl is literally asking you to download an app. Not sure if they can get an android app to use data on intranet. I'm going to guess they just ignore data usage on their iftv servers or something.

No, they are avoiding the usage of a STB. VLAN settings and static routes are applied on the ONT, and a port is bound to that VLAN. Then the TV/STB is connected to that port, and then the device is configured. That device can only access the LIVE TV and is not connected to the internet. It is Intranet TV only, afaik IPTV usually works inside the operator's network only. the other methods like jio tv is http based streaming is it not? So this is actually IPTV but BSNL wants to name it fancy...

yeah definitely. But their FTTH is distributed wider than their previous system so if this is executed then it will be very good

IFTV is just another name but the concept is same. A configuration for a separate profile with VLAN needs to be created on the ONT for IPTV which means you get an IP address either dynamic or static for IPTV only. Jio Live TV which is being tested gets a separate IP address too. So intranet and internet traffic can easily be separated.

The BSNL Live TV app sets a unique STB ID on each device it installs which I guess will be used for user identification and channel packages. And the app when you launch it for the first time installs another app which I guess handles or filters the traffic for the app and other tasks, not sure what it does. Rest we can find out when it launches in more places.

Just I got call From BSNL IPTV Team, they configured from their side, I too configured all the things in my ONU , waiting for OLT needs to be configured in local operator end. I will update once it is done.
