Buying a pre-assembled desktop makes sense now

Everyone have his opinion to by all-in-one or assembled.

If you don't have knowledge of PC components/hardware it's better to buy all-in-one from Company and forgot all.

But if you have knowledge, always go with assembled.
You always gets best parts compared to all-in-one pre-assembled.

As I do know my hardware and if something is not working, I can easily know the fault and if it's in warranty, just submit that perticular part into RMA.

And in 99% cases either it's PSU or motherboard.
Sometimes HDDs, which can be indicated easily and RAM issue as well. Unless you removed speaker from motherboard.


I personally am using assembled PC from past 15 years.

In very starting I didn't have knowledge but within time frame of few month, I learnt all and now I didn't even need a guy to assemble a built for me.

Can see and fix my hardware issues within few mins.

So, like I said go with assembled ones as it's gives you more value as well as life.

If you invest in good quality products and you don't have a lot of moisture issues, the parts work fine. My PC gets so damn dusty, I can't explain. Even the PSU gets all choked up, but since I got the best parts some 7 years ago, everything is working just fine. Just had one issue which is the WiFi adapter failed and it corrupted the Windows installation. Besides that no hardware failure. Thankfully.

Seems great then. Mine would always need to be cleaned after a few years. Getting a case with dust filters is pretty cheap and would be cleaner anyway. This time I got a cx430 PSU but still think I should have covered up my case since theres somehow a lot of lint in my room

In any case I clean it atleast once a year.

I understand that with a branded pre-built PC you get on-site support and the company takes care of everything. But does anyone have a first hand experience of dealing with them and for which brand?

I think the experience depends on where you're getting PC from, just like the BSNL ftth experience depends on the LCO. Like one can do the below till the steps one is comfortable with. And the rest can be done at a local PC shop.
1. Budget and performance required
2. Which brand of component
3. Sourcing
4. Assembling
5. Purchasing warranty / onsite service plans.
6. Installing

Ive always assembled my PC's myself or at a local shop. By approx what percentage would a company build PC cost more than an assembled one? Say a 15-20%? I'm also worried that the company PC makers may skimp on stuff ( eg a low powered SMPS, or a case with poor airflow quality.)

I feel motherboards should last 8-10 years. If one has a good SMPS, exhaust fan, and cleans off the dust periodically.

I clean my pc atleast once a year, before the monsoon (this is v important). I use a soft thick paint brush & the vacuum cleaner together. Note I don't use the blower end only the suction end.

I clean my PC dust filters like every 5-6 days and clean entire PC sometimes in a month, sometimes 2 months.
