The CAG has suggested cancelling nationwide broadband spectrum allocated to Infotel Broadband Services, now a Reliance Industries company, for allegedly rigging the auction and violating rules.
CAG in a draft report sent to the department of telecommunications for comments, said, "the DoT failed to recognise the tell-tale sign of rigging of the auction right from beginning of the auction" in which a small ISP, Infotel Broadband Services (IBSPL) emerged winner of pan-India broadband spectrum by paying 5,000 times of its net worth.

jio so gaya!

Thats the official name and its not CAG. We were taught in schools to spell it as C&AG

We were never taught in any schools about C&AG or CAG whatever the name is .. And yes RIL does own the govt .. These are tricks to make the share price crash to 900 levels btw ..

warthog - since you are collecting stats for this and that these days.
Do you know, how many times Government followed suggestions of CAG?
I can not recall any!

Don't support reliance in any way but the CAG is hell bent on bringing back the stone age where the pegions are the messengers. Yup cancel all the 2G, 3G, 4G and every kind of license in the name of loss to national exchequer. They should also calculate the loss due to non license of water air and what not national resources and tell the overblown hypothetical figure that the country has lost since AD.

@rj27
Yes and then when broadband prices increase and speed does not increase. Dont complain DoT or CAG!
If they dont have competition they will do whatever they want to do.

You can already what has happened to the 3G spectrum auction in the name of 2G spectrum loss. From what I remember there was a time when there were as much as 9-10 gsm operators and 3 cdma operators before this whole CAG theory came forward. Local calls were as low as 10p and 30p STD. And you yourself know what is the same today.

Today almost everyone has mobile but if these spectrum were to be auctioned in the first place in these telcos were made to pay 20000 crores for 2G in 1990s or the early 2000s then even 2G would been a luxury just like 3G is today.

I don't say that auction shouldn't be there but rather when you auction such things there should be enough quantity so that a healthy competition stays in the market with good number of competitors. M&A can follow later.

Broadband prices and speeds are altogether different equation. There are more than 150 registered class A ISPs but has any of them made any dent into BSNL marketshare of ~85%. This issue is irrelevant here in this thread.
