Hello every one i have a question in my mind plz tell me can this happen or not......

ok the thought goes like this

I have just bought a laptop and i already had a desktop and a broadband connection.....

Now i want to use internet on the laptop wirelessly.....
wireless routers is definitely an option but they are costly so they are out of my list.....
now i am thinking is that if some how i connect a bluetooth dongle to the adsl modem's usb port option with the help of a usb converter(type A female to type B male - photo here http://ashman.innovatorshub.org/Untitled.jpg left side converter i am talking about as shown in the photo) then configure my laptop to use bluetooth for excessing internet.

then will it work or not ??????? thats the question.....

i would have tried it but the usb converter is not available in my city. this type of converter is their in the market i searched it on internet and found that it exist.

if some one understood what i am trying to say then plz try this option and tell me that it works or not as i have to then buy online such type of a converter.

reply soon

BROADBAND MAIN MENU
What is your tariff plan ?
Which modem Bsnl provided you ?
Ask for a Type II or IV model ( wireless type). They radiate the signal ( as a transmitter).( Imagine this is your Cordless phone Base station)
Your laptop must have the Wireless lan adapter. inserted in the left side of your laptop usually. ( as a receiver) ( ( (equivalentcordlessphone )
Other proposals sound complicated and sorry I don't understand !

hmmm... don't really know if what you're tryin' to do will work or not ... but i'll tell you how i setup a simple Bluetooth wireless connection to my laptop .....

Requirements:
1 Desktop with an internet connection
1 Laptop with Bluetooth
1 Bluetooth Dongle

(PS : I know you must be aware that Bluetooth devices have different distance and speed ranges so I assume you'll buy one to suit your needs )

Steps:
1. Insert the Bluetooth dongle in the desktop and startup bluetooth in your laptop as well.
2. On your desktop goto My Network Places-> View Network connections and right click on the connection that is actually connected to the Internet ( which may either be the ethernet connection or the dialup connection depending on how you are connecting)
3. Select Properties->Advanced ... Goto Internet Connection Sharing ... In that check the box next to Allow other computers to Access Internet using ____________ and then from the drop down box select your Bluetooth PAN Network Adapter connection ( If there is no Bluetooth Network Adapter Connection see step 3.5)
3.5 Okay if there is no BT Network Adapter then do this ...
a. Open the BlueSoleil Software (Generally this is the software bundled with BT Dongles so I assume you too have this one) on your desktop
b. Switch on BT in your laptop
c. Search for Devices from your Desktop BlueSoleil window
d. Ensure that on your laptop you have enable BT Network ( Should be in the services ... depends on different lappies so not really sure you'll have to find this yourself :P)
e. Setup a BT network by right clicking on your discovered Laptop on your desktop BlueSoleil window by selecting BT Personal Area Networking Service ...
f. The BT PAN Network Adapter will install now and you will see another LAN connection in the Network connections list
4. Disconnect the desktop from the internet and reboot your modem ( or simply disable and enable the corresponding ethernet connection)
5. Setup the BT Network by switching on Bluetooth in both devices ... then using the desktop setup a Bluetooth Personal Network by using the BT Personal Area Networking Service (the leftmost service on the main window) and then connect to the internet normally as you do from your desktop.

Second Part:

To configure the Laptop to use the shared Internet connection, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Network and Internet Connections.
3.Click Internet Options.
4.In the Internet Properties dialog box, click the Connections tab.
5.Click the Setup button. The New Connection Wizard starts.
6.On the Welcome to the New Connection Wizard page, click Next.
7.Click Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
8.Click Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.
9.Click Connect using a broadband connection that is always on, and then click Next.
10.On the Completing the New Connection Wizard page, click Finish.
11.Quit Control Panel. When you now start Microsoft Internet Explorer, the client computer will try to connect to the Internet by using the host computer's shared Internet connection.

I think that was kinda simple any doubts ask me :)

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have different purposes. Bluetooth is intended for limited data transfer between many different types of devices, Wi-Fi is more focussed on faster data transfer between computers on a network. As regarding u Q. Soln 1 : (ur thinking)u r trying to connect BT dongle to ur ADSL modem using Port converter(type A to B).. not a good idea but could work.. if only u have a firmware on ur ADSL which loads BT stack for u. The firmware size will also be restricted depending on the Harware of the ADSL Modem.. & then Q abt BT stack prob & interoperability will come.. & on top of that u will be restricted by the actual data rate that u might get depending upon Class1,2or3 & version 1.0 or 2.0 BT version. Also u will need to have to buy one more BT dongle for PC if u want to access that too..Requires Loads of time, patience & skills.. can be a hobby implementation. To get it to work u will endup building a custom ADSL modem with f/w from ground up.i would also love to work on that if i have time ;)Soln 2 :Solution posted by Linkin_park is suitable for u & u will have to buy only 1 BT dongle but u will also have to keep the PC on till u want to access net on Laptop, so will get more power bill.Soln 3 : Buy a Wi-Fi Router. Pros: Internet works on both PC & Laptop simultaneously, U get a Home Network & can transfer files faster.. maybe stream mp3 from PC if ur collection is huge.Con : It's costlier than BT.I would say better to buy Wi-Fi router (Rs.1500-2400-12,000[N-draft]) & spare urself trouble of BT ( will cost only Rs.200-800). I am sure if u can afford a Laptop u can also afford a Wi-Fi router unless u r really cash strapped.
