Can someone explain Optics Module Status? Is mine good or bad?

@philip A PON link is indeed shared, it's a not a dedicated link. Hence the max throughput of a PON link is 1-2 Gbps depending on whether it's GPON or EPON. All users connected to the same PON link share this capacity.

Cable broadband is also shared, I don't have the technical details, but the max capacity is indeed shared by all the users.

The advantage of PON is the higher coverage area upto 20 km with no need for any active splitters or boosters etc. All joints etc are through passive devices which doesn't need external power. Also fiber cable is cheap too.
 
I think that if custom set top boxes are provisioned by each operator,we should use better codec like H.265 or AV1 from now onwards and broadcast encrypted channels.It will save lots of bandwidth for DOCSIS as a backup to fibre.
I really believe that the execution has been very lousy in most of these areas.
The digitalisation was a chance to make the change but it was considered as a burden.
Moreover,time has come to create a SPV and merge all fiber undertaking,which are not used by defence,and lease it for most efficient use.
As far as cable is concerned,they use the age old parts including mpeg compression(confirmation needed),Co-Axial cable and limited bandwidth increasing the capex for the operator and limiting bandwidth which can serve as backup purpose by DOCSIS 3.1 and offload no-tech-savy users with very low uploading requirements.It help improve the resource utilisation.
But,again....nobody cares.
 
okay, what's the optical standard which allows greater (*shared maybe) bandwidth for residential user even tho its distance migh not be that great say 4 km(For indian lcos 20 km doesn't matter as per my lco views, they don't branch so extensively, even many are not competent to lay down 10 km+ according to him)
 
@Realme With the use of Forward Error Correction,the reach of fiber can be doubled to 40 Km or number of splits can be doubled.
But only one of the above can be achieved.
 
So I am curious how does this gigabit fiber link work.. if the maximum throughput through a fiber strand is lets say 2,4 Gbps, then it can support only 2 gigagit customers right.
Or lets go down, lets take the case of BSNL 300mbps customers, so one fiber strand will go only to less than 10 ONTs ?.. i think the olt supports way more onts in each of its port
 
That 2.4Gbps will be shared among many people. The ISP doesn't expect everyone to use their full bandwidth all the time. So for example a 2.4Gbps link will be shared among 20 people on Gigabit plan.


This is why speeds sometimes drop during evening and night time. When more people are using the network.
