My Friend has Redmi 4A and he uses 4G with Vodafone Sim on Idea network and it just works fine.
He even got a msg that as ur phone doesn't support the LTE Band 1 you will get connected to Idea network.

Even Idea uses Band 3 10Mhz spectrum but Jio and Airtel still uses 5Mhz in Chennai. Even Vodafone uses Band 1 10Mhz.
Ya they need to buy more spectrum in band 3. But why can't vodafone deploy 5Mhz band 3 even after merging with idea.
Do you know which network going to be shutdown in Chennai after vodafone-idea network integration in Chennai ?

I don't know about it but Vodafone doesn't has Band 3 spectrum in TN. Idea had only 5Mhz spectrum before but suddenly it added extra 5Mhz recently.
Actually vodafone has 8Mhz and idea has 11.4mhz band 3 spectrum in TN. Vodafone used 8Mhz for 2G but later liberalised it to use it for 4G after merging with idea. But still it doesn't has a own 1800mhz network.
