Dubbed the Holistic Progress Card, the initiative is envisaged under the National Education Policy 2020 for a “multidimensional progress monitoring” of school students.
“The progress card would also provide teachers and parents with valuable information on how to support each student in and out of the classroom,” it said. “It will include self-assessment and peer assessment, and progress of the child in project-based and inquiry based learning, quizzes, role plays, group work, portfolios, etc., along with teacher assessment.”
Similarly, for Class 12, the proposed changes involve students studying two languages instead of one, with the condition that at least one must be a native Indian language. Overall, they would have to clear examinations in six subjects instead of five to graduate from high school.
The CBSE board will pilot the open book exam plan 2024 in Class 9 and Class 11 only and in a few schools. OBE will be expanded next academic year, 2025-26, said a CBSE official.
The CBSE board detected ‘inconsistency and potential inflation’ in IA marks awarded by schools. It will again check data from CBSE board exams and serve notices to schools where the problem persists.
The board exams usually begin in February, and this timeframe will likely continue with the new two-exam system, with sources noting that conducting tests earlier would be challenging due to harsh winter conditions in some regions and would potentially reduce teaching time.
In the Class 10 Board examination in 2028, the two subjects could either have one question paper with an additional set of questions for the advanced level, or different question papers for the two levels, said a source.
