I think i have been free and at home for 2011 census, though they must not have taken so much of data then, as in the objective this time. The census to take place in 2023, and it would be completely digital census and over 37 billion rupees has been allocated for the census. Don't know how it will be utilized.
Can't wait. India might cross 1.6 billion officially. But, aren't there better way to estimate? Now that most are required to have Adhaar.

Decennial census exercise postponed till September 2023
The general elections are expected to be held in March-April 2024 and the completion of both the phases of census will take at least 11 months, even if done at accelerated pace from October, there by ruling out the possibility of census happening anytime in 2023 and early 2024.

Update NPR to enumerate self during next Census
