Hi,
My relative has BSNL broadband (wired fiber) connection in Pune. When it was setup about 2 years ago, that was the only provider available in the area. So we had no option. It worked very well so long, no single day downtime at all. That's impressive.

Recently it stopped working and I decided to look into it. It was just not making PPPoE connection despite correct credentials and VLAN Id.

We raised a complaint and technician visited within a day and he said VLAN id has changed from 160 to 144.
After that it started working fine again.
I am curious, is this change applicable for all users or only a select users who are on that VLAN?
Thanks.

It varies from area to area, depends on the LCO (Local Cable Operator) or BSNL (if a direct connection) side configuration. I am guessing, there was some equipment upgrade / changes which resulted in a VLAN change.

For instance, for me in Kerala, the VLAN for BSNL is 702. Whereas for my cousin some 20 km away, the VLAN is 140 or something.
