hi alli have ordered a UMG 1831 on eBay but the seller is taking a lot of time to ship me the modem... so when i receive the modem i wont have the time to check the quality of speed in my area else the offer period would pass away... so i have decided to take a sim and do a recharge of 120 and check it on Nokia 7230 that i hav with me with UMTS with a max downlink of 384 kbps.... so i just want to know what speed achieved on nokia can be called as good speed ??? or simply after getting which speed i can consider my area to be a good 3G covered area ??? like if 45 kbps achieved in mobile that can go upto 3.5 Mbps on Data card ??? any such equations ???

Naa, don't waste your time/money testing it on 3G. Use it directly on 3.5G4200 offer is available till 31st Jan 2011 so you've got some time. Till then buy a BSNL 3G SIM and wait for your modem!

Yes In can go but Download speed may vary on condition of signal strength. anyway a 2Mbps+ is expected.

@djsas nopes ,there isn't any such equation, better to test it on UMG 1831 only. this offer isn't ending after 31st Jan, so take ur time and test it with 120 and only then recharge it with 4200

hey ramanujpatro is that u? Nice 2 c u here. As far as i knew the offer gets over on 31st. Has it extended?

:)

I asked a BSNL guy and he replied it won't end.

If they end it now, people won't count on BSNL for their future offers coz people have invested on the device and BSNL wudn't like to get a bad name b4 other pvt. operators start.

ok one more question that tommorow i am going to BSNL for the sim... so what are the steps ??1) get the sim for 59..... with valid documents submitted...2) Get a recharge of 120 for 1 week...... now about point 2.... what recharge is 120 ?? do i need to mention that i want a "data recharge " of 120 ??.... and secondly if i recharge with 120 do i need to recharge with any other card also for validity or activation or stuffs like that ?? coz i am not going to make any calls from that no ever..... so is 120 all i need to get set go for a week of usage ????? 120+59= 179 all that is needed for the startup ????and later on for 4200 wud 4200 be enough or any additional recharge is req for validity and stuffs ??/

^^ Just mention FRC (First Re-Charge) 120. You don't need to do any other recharge after doing FRC120.Yes, 120 + 59 = 179 is all you need.4200 is enough for 6 months of UL 3G. No other recharge required.
