even if we format C and reinstall Windows,
If the dropper is not in the C drive,
Getting more and more complicated for a clean install!
I have installed Xp pro sp3 in two laptops and no "dropper " seen.
only, after almost one year .
Formatting and installing OS again again
for virus attack is bad practice.

please explain what is "dropper."

I had formatted only the C drive since I have large volumes of data on the other drives.I ran full system scan with Avast and Malwarebytes in Safe Mode. Once Malwarebytes did detect a Trojan Downloader few days back and removed it but the problem seems to exist and now while scanning both Avast and Mbytes come out clean with the scanso I doubt that the virus could exists in the partition level of the disk...any way I can scan the partition sectors?Thank you for your advice...and of course the link.

UpdateMy PC was connected to the modem through USB and I have changed it to Ethernet [through an RJ45] and since then I am not having the disconnection problem :dance:I think that it had something to do with the USB port of the modem since the same issue was there when I used the modem with another PCThanks again!

RUN full scan with AV and anti malware spyware applications,in all other drives. If you have some program files and you select it from say D:/virus infection possible.ONLY checking C:/ or WINDOWS folder , not correct.Download Yahoo Antispy. scans very fast and can be incorporated in web browser. In spite of AV ( resident program)detected 7 tracking cookies in 7 seconds for me.and I deleted them. Full scan with spybot AdAware takes hours.Still in doubt run full scan your other AV/Antispyprograms.

Well many times, virus comes in from Pen Drives and thats why I am currently using the USB Disk Security software which detects any USB device as soon as it is plugged in and detects virus if any. Most of the times, viruses came in to my computer from pen drives of my friends.Apart from this, I am using Quick Heal which I installed just yesterday (along with the USB Disk Sec). But before this, I had no antivirus or antispyware for almost 3 years. By the way, I am using my computer since 2004 and trust I needn't format it till date, not even once...!!:rofl:

I use multiple layers of security1. Avast 4.8 Home [resident protection]2. Malwarebytes Full Version [resident protection]3. SpywareBlaster browser pluginSo I don't think that the issue had anything to do with viruses/ worms. The same issue happened when I was using my friend's computer with the same modem. However when my friend got his own DataOne connection and got a new modem, the problem stopped. So I am sure that the USB port of my modem has issues...but anyways I am now using Ethernet to connect it to my PC and it's working great.Anyways, I have a 64bit windows which makes it difficult to install USB driver...so as of now I am happy :)Just wanted to update this thread so that if anyone else is having the same issue...they might want to switch to ethernet from USB and see it it solves the problem...it worked for me :)
