Cops in India are now tracking torrent downloads to catch pirates

What actions did those 1010 people face? As I see it, stay away from downloading newly released regional movies with extremely popular cast in them. You may be sued at the best, anything beyond that seems overkill to me.
These people don't give two shits if you download some newly released hollywood movie. It doesn't affect them. Although I would suggest all the extremely rich b@stards to not be stingy and buy a copy.
Man! What was those 2 girls fault who were arrested for posting about Balasaheb?
If cops want to arrest you there can be a silly reason! I wouldnt take a chance anymore by downloading anything on torrent in this country now. Cops are waiting for a chance to eat money.

Well, the day I see someone getting arrested and jailed for downloading a movie is the day when two things would happen: 1) India would have become a first world nation and would be the best country in the world 2) I would literally laugh myself to death.
Cases like vandalism on Politicians are taken a bit more seriously as they affect the politicians image which apparently is quite important to them.

Just make sure that they are designed for privacy. They are based in countries which are well not like USA. Otherwise it would be pointless. Also download using secure FTP. I am not exactly sure if SFTP or SCP hide the details of file content.

All they see is encrypted garbage go through, its not like file names are transmitted over a separate protocol.
