Cyanogen Mod Installer is not a really true rooting app would recommend as already suggested in this thread , hit xda and follow the hard way , no one click app can really do the job of truly rooting your cell it has to be done via console cmds , takes time for 1st time after that you can do it in your sleep :P btw the whole point of running a custom rom is to get away from google play !!!! download apks from trusted devs and install them yourselves, trusting google right now with too info and data is not really a bright idea .

Right. CM Installer managed to install CM on my phone without 'truly' rooting the device. I should just behave like a hipster and degrade my user experience on the phone by not doing things the regular way.

3 yrs I've been on stock rom, never really bothered the pain to install a custom rom. I did however rooted my phone 1st thing when I received it, but was still on stock. Every time i wanted to try a custom rom, the process of loading right drivers matching my phone and desktop OS and adb has always been a downer. With CM installer, it was a breeze, and I really love the custom rom. Wish the installer was available before. My old nexus s breathes a new life, and is so buttery with cm 10.2.

^^how could you root your phone without drivers? Mobile Odin? I think even that needs root. And once rooted, why would you need drivers? Just copy the rom to memory and flash.

I OEM unlocked the bootloader, loaded recovery and left the stock as is. I used proper drivers when I was on win7, now I'm on win8.1 and I lost recovery, so to flash recovery I needed drivers all over again. I tried couple of times to find proper drivers, then gave up. That way the cm installer was a breeze, it loaded the right drivers for me automatically. And now that I've permanent recovery, future flashing of Roms should be easy. :)
