what i cannot gauge is what has static & dynamic ip got to do with this disconnection thing? the lower the connections at any given moment of time, the lower the revenues to be earned by `bsnl'. a dynamic i.p. remains allotted to the person who last used it for roughly 5 minutes after he/she disconnects or is force-disconnected.. doubt whether `bsnl' can know in advance that someone will be connecting within the next 6 minutes so that they can disconnect another.

juhitoy, it would be best if you could try to get in touch with some other people who are in the same exchange as yours and try to find out if they face the same problem.. if yes, then the problem is with the instruments at your exchange. best is that you demand from bsnl to send an engineer with a laptop so that the problems can be shown to him at your place. just be persistent and they will send. best of luck.. :) Pupudada!

Yeah, you are right. I should ask them to come here and check for themselves. But on the phone they say that they have got everything right and that the problem might be with my computer software and that their technical support is only for the modem and broadband.

I will some how try to get their tech engineer to check up at my desktop with his laptop.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Juhitoy, in your device manager, properties for your network card, do you have an "Adaptive Link Response" option under the "advanced" tab?If it's there and set to "yes", change it to "no" and see if this makes any difference.... when you change it your connection will drop and come back in a few seconds (or you need to dial in again)...

also, does your BSNL connection really drop? or is it just the small download that gets interrupted?like, i listen to online radio and that is low-bandwidth and that "drops" (stops) once in a while and i need to start it again, not the bsnl connection...just checking...

ping google.com and keep the connection busy. helps me when i am on dialup.

I dont have Adaptive Link Res" option there. I am using DAVICOM 9201 Fast Ethernet adapter.

Yes, my dataone connection actually disconnects and then reconnects every half hour(if left idle). Not the downloads. When I download something then the connection does not get disconnected.

Thank you.

Remember that this disconnection occurs only if you dont download more than some 3 or 5 MB with in a time limit of 30 mts. So if you want to download some thing at night 2 - 8 am, then you wont get disconnected at all as you would be downloading 256 Kb (bits) or 32KB (bytes) every sec.

If anyone has a solution to this 30 min disconnects which defies BSNL timer please post your solution/solutions here.

I am using modem given by BSNL.

Thank you.

I keep my connection on for days and never gets disconnected even if i download or access the internet for hours together.

As far as I know there is no such limitation.

Check out if all other Dataone users in your exchange/locality suffer the same problem.

One of my friend suggested me to do this.

click start then run
type cmd and press ok
in the dos window type:
net config server /autodisconnect:-1
hit enter
reboot pc
that will disabled xp's annoying autodisconnect function (well actually sets it to an infinate ammount of

Has any one tried this ? Also if you can could you please tell me what your "net config server /autodisconnect" time is set to ?

Thank you.
