they claim that helmets are not compulsory for women in delhi.

Nah nah, just like our badminton federation thinks skirts are compulsory to increase glamour value on court, maybe they dont want women to hide face to increase glamour value on road!Or may be they think women skull is stronger than concrete road or truck tires and can easily absorb shock, so no need of helmet.

from what i remember courts had only made an exception for sikh women. and even that was removed after a while.

too bad it would be painful to locate the relevant law online.

well they are correct as far as women are concerned....women in Delhi are indeed exempt from wearing helmets while riding the bike/pillion-riding as per Section 115(2) Delhi Motor Vehicle Rules , 1993...i didnt know that women dont crack their skull's however hard they fall..:001_rolleyes:

Ah, they are exempt, this question was asked to me when i gave the test for a learners driving license.

Strange ...any reason for such an exception being made?

pressure from public? i think the sikh community was very angry when helmets were made compulsory. so the exemption began with sikh women. apparently as per their religious beliefs, sikh women are not allowed to wear any kind of head gear. but later on it was extended to all women. perhaps to avoid the hassles of judging the person by her religion. mera bharat mahaan.
