Before Jio (around 2010)my primary number was RCOM CDMA(Importer phone with SIM +Evdo support ). Used to recharge for like 800 per month for unlimited calls (RCOM was 1st to bring unlimited packs for voice ) and few GBs of data(don't remember the exact quantum. ..was big fan of CDMA..crystal clear call even with 1 bar and never had issue with coverage either. Secondary number was GSM DOCOMO

Current day.
Lost my primary number (CDMA closed, I was outside India so could not port/switch to other provider )
Secondary number of DOCOMO become primary ..moved to Idea than to Vodafone and then to Jio

For me Jio experience is very much close to RCOM CDMA(crystal clear voice, reasonable data speed(on mobile anything in range of 5Mbps is good enough for me) and good coverage). Overall my spending is now 1/3rd of what it was 10 years back..so ya..very happy on this front...

Jio entry has only made stuffs cheaper for me. Quality was their earlier as well...coverage had increased (but that's not because of Jio..without them as well coverage would have increased)

2. No matter how much spectrum you purchase, it will always be scarce. We are simply too big of a population to even think we can have good net speeds.

3. Competing priorities.... Govt is hell bent on AGR while companies cannot afford to pay them.

So what can be done.

2. Invest more on wired connection. Remove those regulatory crap and let there be fair competition.

3. This is important.. Ensure fair play for all players and make sectors competitive. Allow more operators and let customers decide which plan, operators are best for them. Today, it is the company which decides what is good for you, which plan etc.

4. Have a penal provision for data speeds similar to what existed for call drops. Just like Jio says speeds on fiber upto 80% is acceptable, a similar arrangement for mobile data should be made.
You should see countries like China or area like Hong Kong(one of the most densely populated cities..we do get good speeds...so irrespective of population good speeds can be achieved.

I think it's not government problem..root cause is our 1st 3G auction when companies raised the bidding price so much..AGR was der since long...problem started when companies started purchasing spectrum for really high amount which didn't made much business sense..resulted in high debts and their inability to pay AGR...

India don't have any regulatory crap for wired connection...each cities has so many small small ISPs. It's purely lack of investment and demand.(I live in tier 2 city society has around 112 apartments. BSNL FTTH and Airtel FTTH available but do you know how many wired connection is there....less than 30😭..believe me most are happy with 1GB mobile data and they don't need wired internet..unless they experience it they won't think they need it.)

Can't have penal provision. As spectrum is limited plus non of the telecom companies claim speeds on mobile. So can't have penal provision...btw we do have some penal proviosns on call drops (which is required as per license conditions )
