Does 720P TV show as 1080p when connected to PC?

I bought a HD ready TV recently. When connected to PC, it shows as 1080p and also Hotstar shows the display resolution as 1080p. How is this possible?

I would assume its down scaling? You can set custom resolutions like 1440p or 4k using Custom Resolution Utility. It will just look blurry and weird i think

I am not saying about the video resolution. Windows detect it as a 1080p monitor. Is it possible?

Prime too detect it as 1080p display, I guess, as it shows HD 1080p logo in videos.

Ah is it on VGA? I had issues with monitors being recognized wrong with VGA. My 900p monitor was detected as 768p for instance.

Nope. It's connected with HDMI. In my case it is the reverse, 720p tv is detected as 1080p by windows.
