Yeah, my father's been insisting on that too since some time, frankly all those procedures, looking for the right counter, waiting in line..it brings me out in a sweat even when i am asked to do something as simple as depositing a cheque. I can handle a money order, so what address do i send it to.And Samm, i have followed up on that PM.
^ Depositing a cheque doesn't require a line. There are drop boxes. Opening a bank account is a breeze provided you have the necessary proofs. On topic, I think if you are interested in pooling contributions, starting a thread might be a better idea. There are quite a few Linux enthusiasts here who might like to contribute their bit
please do not send any money orders to me. this is the least i can do for you guys! i mean instead of celebrating major milestones by giving gifts to regular members, i can probably donate to their favorite causes?

actually getting a bank account could be pretty complicated. especially in private banks. sarkari banks are easier.
if you have your voter ID card and some other documentation, it should be pretty easy. private banks? they are painful.
i remember a time when i was told by ICICI Bank to first open an account in a government bank. and then use the documentation provided by it to open an account with them.
i realized that they were just too lazy to do the verification themselves. so they preferred documentation of a sarkari bank so that they can put the blame on them in case the account is connected to some hawala scam.

I have a bank account in SBI, I didn't even have a Voter ID card just the PAN card and my Central Boards certificates.We need a credit card to send donations, right? Please educate us 
Help me out here, you did say that i could send USD 5 and you would forward it to the project in IBF's name, you weren't kidding right? So at what address, or to what account do i send it too, i could use my father's account to Electronically transfer the amount.

heh yeah. and i do not think you can now use the funds lying in your paypal account to make payments. paypal requires you to transfer the money to your bank account. and you can then process payments from there. this has become a major headache. for example... you get 100 dollars from some client. you have to transfer that amount to your bank. paypal rates applies. and then suppose, you make a payment of USD 10. again paypal rates apply. you can easily lose a buck or two on every dollar on each transaction.
