Hi,I am using BSNL since 2 years, I use it on both Windows Xp and Linux. Previously I used to connect modem with the ethernet cable but some days back it stopped working so I have used USB connection to connect modem with my system. For windows I don't have any issues but I unable to connect to internet from Linux, I am using Red Hat Linux 9.0.After diagnosing I have found that the ethernet connection is having an issue, the LAN light is glowing when I am connecting cable but the connection is not getting established.I will be greatful if you give me some method to connect internet in Linux. Thanks,Prashant

You will have to find the linux drivers for the USB support for modem that you are using.

I would recommend if you can check your connecting cable. That can be faulty. Are you able to ping your modem.

Hi,I unable to ping my modem (192.168.1.1) from windows and linux both.I don't think the connecting cable is having an issue because when i connect the cable the LED of modem start glowing. As you said I may require to install USB drivers for Linux. Do you have any idea what drivers to install ?Thanks,Prashant

One thing, blinking light would not necessarily mean your cable is not faulty. Get it checked by using your friend's connection.

I would certainly not recommend USB. Thats not reliable and also Linux has limited and bad support for USB devices. It would be sheer luck if you could get the drivers for your modem make.Check the modem manufacturers website for USB drivers.

Also check below thread for configuring ADSL connection on Linux.
