Yes, the black fiber is a simple unarmored single-core fiber cable and is very thin. We had a rat issue once and they could chew through the cable in mere seconds. These cables get damaged in 1-2 years' time and require changing.
The white box is their 'jugaad' of holding the splice canal between both the black fiber and yellow fiber secured. My previous ISP used the same thing and unless you fiddle with it too much, it works just fine. It's a simple plastic box, and judging by its condition is probably used by its previous owner.
There's also an armored multi-core fiber cable in the terrace through which it gets split into this black cable but the armored cable is nowhere as strong as the ones provided by the likes of Jio and Airtel.
There are still many ISPs here that provide internet via UTP CAT 5 - 2 pair cables, with Desktop Switches up on the terrace. They provide stunning internet speeds of 10Mbps per customer.
It's 535KB/s (with occasional spiked to 802) on Excitel, the same goes for airtel using
Google Drive on
Android, and a whopping 102KB/s when using a desktop. It's the same thing when using a
VPN too.
I don't prefer using Google Products, so it's not an issue for me.
@nishantt6969 If you torrent, then I'd suggest you don't go for Excitel.
