Fed up of Airtel FUP & high prices! Suggestion required for Faridabad area.

Hi,
I live in Faridabad and have been using Airtel landline for past 11 years  and using it's broadband for several years too.
But I just can't take it anymore. They have exorbitant prices for minimal broadband services and also they don't provide speeds over 2Mbps in my area.
So I have posted for disconnection at Airtel CC and I plan to move on. But all this without thinking where to move to! :russianroulette: . Initially I thought I would move to BSNL but found out they have almost same plans as Airtel with amateur customer support.
These are the options I have already tried:
1. Tikona - service not available in my area (available 300 metres away :pissed-off: ).
2. Hathway - service not available in my area.
3. Spectranet - service not available in my area.
These are the options I am considering:
1. Getting MTNL SIM from Delhi and using 1650 Unlimited 3G.
2. Getting MTS Ultra Wifi with 999 40GB plan.
Now I have a MTS ZTE AC2746 data card.
 • Can that be used with MTNL or any other service provider?
Also I have a big doubt about MTS speed after FUP. It says 164 Kbps after 40GB.
 • Does that mean 164 Kbps download speed (Bliss) or 164 Kbps total speed and download speed will be 20 KBps (Cruel)?
So someone please suggest something. What should I go with? Any advice other than above options is also welcome.

Hi, OP here.

Actually for a long time I wanted to write this, but I am in a constant fight with laziness and I guess I will lose it badly.

So let me tell you how it turned out for me.

 • First thing I tried after banishing Airtel from my home was to contact Tikona for a demo. Their technician called me next day and told that their connection is not feasible in my area (but is available 200 metres away).
 • After that I decided to use Reliance 3G (using Tethering in mobile) until I find a solid alternative to Airtel broadband. Reliance 3G speeds are good, but had a bit of connectivity issues and even though it's cheaper in terms of 3G it still is costlier than broadband.
 • Then I decided to check out MTNL 1600 rs. plan but first bought a BSNL connection to check BSNL 3G (Only if you don't know - MTNL uses BSNL infrastructure outside Delhi & Mumbai, so in order to use MTNL 3G check how BSNL signals are at your place) at my place. BSNL 3G at my place was worse than 2G - it's brilliant in sector 15 area, if anyone intends to use it there, go for it without a doubt.
 • Then I came across a revelation, a breath of fresh air - BSNL EVDO - with true unlimited plan at 825 rs. I was dumbstruck. Also BSNL tower being 600 metres from my place gave me orgasmic happiness. So I decided to go for it and I am still it till date (not happy). Read my BSNL EVDO experience below:
BSNL EVDO in Faridabad sector 7 area -
TLDR;: - Not satisfactory - mostly 40-80 KBps download speeds, sometimes (an hour or two a day) reaching upto 150KBps.

After all mind boggling I finally thought my search would be over with evdo. I went to BSNL sector 6 office and demanded a demo.

That office, at that time (2 months ago), was handled mostly by the SDO with severe under-staffing. Now in order to get a demo I had to wait for 4 weeks due to plethora of problems that I don't want to discuss as they are not relevant. But since I already knew BSNL 3G is awful at my place, I didn't had the guts to directly go for an evdo connection without a demo.

Finally I got the demo and found that speeds were real bad and connection was inconsistent. But I felt that since a very aged modem (ZTE AC8700) was used for demonstration; I felt I was missing on actual evdo power ,and that, that demo didn't proved anything.

Since after almost a month I went for an evdo connection (even though demo was unsatisfactory). I didn't bought BSNL modem and just bought an evdo SIM for 350 rs. Then after many recommendations I bought ZTE AC2766 modem (used) through Ebay. Also, to my liking this modem was definitely far better than that was used in demo and I could get a stable connection with full 5 bars at my place.

But to my dismay speeds are pathetic and fluctuations is a norm with evdo. There are days when I get 100-150 KBps download speed for an hour or two but mostly speeds are varying between 40-80 KBps. And this is not due to traffic I can guarantee. I have tested it for past 1 month at different times 24 hours a day, be it 5 a.m or 5 p.m. I think it's because of poor and rarely maintained infrastructure.

Last Resort: Now some of you might recommend BSNL broadband, especially 1445 rs. plan, but I must tell you that BSNL in Ballabhgarh and Sector 7 area (where I live) is particularly bad, my cousin is using it and is very disappointed particularly due to frequent disconnections and bad service. Otherwise speeds in BSNL broadband are good with minimal FUP.

So What Next? I might go back to Airtel broadband after all this fuss. :russianroulette::heartbreak::punch::cry:

:) That's case of most of us.

BTW, FUP term is no longer relevant. Airtel does not use it. Now, they just don't provide any unlimited high speed plans :p

BSNL need not turn out bad for you. Most disconnections are due to bad lime quality. Since you're likely to get a new line. I doubt you'll face issues.

What have you to lose anyway? :D

True that and I don't expect everything to work as perfect as Airtel but at least give some support if things go bad.

For example, in case of evdo I have tried contacting BSNL CC 6 times in past 25 days and wasn't able to get past IVR even once. That tells a story.

Anyways will surely look everywhere from Tata Indicom/Photon to MTS to BSNL Broadband before crawling back to Andho-Main-kaana-Raja Airtel.

Any info on how to get a connection and cost of getting one? I mean BSNL Sim is costly at 350 rs. What do Tata & MTS connections cost.

Also are they RUIMs so that I can use them with my unlocked ZTE AC2766 or do I compulsorily need to buy data cards with them?

No idea about MTS. TATA costs around 100 in Mumbai. Prepaid CDMA.

Yes, these are RUIMS, but the 2766 is a RevA modem and the max possible speed is only 3.1mbit, whereas both tata and MTS support 9.8mbps via RevB. Tata allows unlocked dongles like the EC306 to connect to their revB network, I'm not sure about MTS.

Tbh, wired>>wireless.
