Do you think such a system could catch the bad guys before they strike next ? -- I don't know the answer

If you want to prevent the attack you have to go after them where they live and plan these attacks and that IMHO is the solution.

Right now we seem to be doing it wrong, the terrorist have a base (outside the country), where they plan and execute these attacks and we sit in our own land and compromise our privacy and way of life, so that there is a small chance that we may be able to stop the next attack.

How to do that ?You can hit a few camps, they will start a few more in the interior, then we are back to square one. Ppl who did 26/11 got trained in the Karachi area.We can sponsor our own groups to cause havoc there but this is a very grey area. Its going down to their level and will only increase the hatred between the two countries and lead to even more attacks. In the meantime all we are left with is to lock down the fort. If even that fails then it will mean war :oIf the Americans pull out of Afghanistan, then we will be going back to the 90s. Much more ppl freed to cause havoc in India. In some ways i cant help thinking all these moves by the govt. are being done in anticaption of this very event.

Then you hit them again... and again... and again...
For ex the Americans managed to keep their country safe since 2001, by making sure that every time an AlQeada leader comes out of his hiding place, he is blown to bits by a US warplanes

In the meantime all we are left with is to lock down the fort.
By 'lock down the fort' you mean compromise on one's privacy, give up part of one's freedom and change our entire way of life.

Yes but each time its deeper into the country. They are not going to idly sit by and tolerate this are they ?

The americans had a hard enough time doing it with drones let alone attack aircraft & special forces ops as we would. Also the americans are largely confined to the autonomous areas of the NFWP, more specifically only to a cpl of agencies within viz. the waziristans. All this is possible with their stick & carrot approach. Stick on its own won't work.

This is very good for Pak's point of view as it seems like we don't have many viable options and are unable to put an end to their attacks. We're largely reduced to merely reacting to a time & place of their choosing :(

So where does it all lead to then ?

Lock down the fort.

I suppose you are referring to the drone attacks.

To a certain extent, yes :(

What did you mean by 'change our entire way of life' ?

what do you mean to a certain extent.they have totally destroyed our rights.already in UK the govt is installing cctv cameras in families home!.those who give freedom for security neither deserve freedom nor security.I am still baffled that you think in the name to fight terror these measures are being done to prevent it.it is being done for us DAMMIT

In this case, can these politicians escape ? means their privacy is also a concern. they should be tracked as well. i guess mostly 75 % of the politicians should be arrested for their corruption. if they are more concerned abt the country's safety, first they should track their own conduct. btw, i am anyway against privacy.

hey IT DOESNT MATTER IF YOU ARE FOR OR AGAINST.WHEN IT IS A DAMM RIGHT IT CANNOT BE INFRINGED.:madness:"i am against privacy"-do you even know what you are TALKING or you meant you are agasint anyone infringing your privacy?

Try to look at it from the other side is all i'm gonna say. Did you read that article i linked to earlier ?

India is the second most terrorist infected country after bloody Iraq!

Evidently we are unable to deter ppl from attacking us. Nearly every plot suceeds. Borders are being tightened up, fences are being installed around the Banglas. What is the solution to this problem ?

Realise that i've only gone a bit over to the other side wrt to this grid. My position on the ID cards remains the same as always actually pending that discussion in the law uni in Nov, hopefully we will be able to get minutes from that meet.

The naxalite movement is entirely seperate to this grid. The article says that the govt. plans to meet violence with violence and is therefore approaching a police state. Notice they don't mention Andhra in the lists of states affected by the maoists, funny because their rangers have been doing this very same thing and have been quite successful. So the naxalite problem is to a certain extent not present in Andhra. This might be a pointer in how to deal with the larger problem. In any case MMS has said he want to tackle it and we can expect movement in this regard soon.
