edit: YES! they have sent you an email stating "we are damn sure its competitors"... NOW you could counter-sue them for making false statements WITHOUT evidence... throw their own strategy back at them

the bigger problem for me is this forum.
this forum is open to anyone and everyone. people come here. say crap about their service providers and then disappear.
if anyone can come here and start accusing me of 'defamation'. what defense do i have to run a forum like this.
having a disclaimer page is not really going to stop any lawyer from not targeting me.
the law has to be clear and such threats have to be stopped.

well "harassment" may not be the right term... you could consult your own buddies ... it could be any other number of things... like "libel", "defamation", "false claims with zero evidence" (their own words) heh... they have actually sent that in writing to you or just a regular email??? maybe you should ask them TO RE-SEND THE MESSAGE IN CERTIFIED DOCUMENT where they said "we are damn sure it is competitors"... then lets see if they keep going or back down or what...

ya forum wise you could be more lax, by either deleting anonymous comments... or simply providing the complainer with the IP address of the poster... put it out of your hands... let the company contact the poster directly (by finding out who it is based on IP address) for any contentious material...
what if the same lawyer is representing a company like Sify Broadband... i am sure all the comments on your forum are representatives of rivals of my client sify broadband. i want this forum off the internets. if anyone has a problem, he should contact the complaints department of sify broadband. we live in china and i am the chinese government.

i guess if he is sending me 'notices' through emails, this would constitute an official accusation as well.
just check up with your own lawyer friends if email is good enough to be considered official written notice... if not, then ask them to re-send the email in printing form on official letterhead etc and through registered post and what not... but then its up to you what to do with it in the first place... this really annoys me how large companies try to bully regular people. i guess its not limited to india, im sure such crap happens all over the world...
