GST rate on fabrics has been hiked to 12% from 5% from January 2022 and GST on apparel of any value has also been increased to 12%, compared to 5% earlier with cost of upto Rs 1,000 per piece.
This is giving serious issues to the distributors of Apparel. The MRP won't change for existing stock. Till now it was X+Y+5% was the MRP where in X was purchase price, Y was margin and 5% GST. Now for existing stock the 7% difference needs to come out of margin which is certainly not enough.
Clothes and footwear are set to get dearer due to increase in raw material prices and rate hike.The govt recently notified an increase in GST on apparel and footwear from 5% to 12%
