I am unable to see the +1 button on the top :( PS:- can i selectively enable js to see the +1 button ?

One observation regarding forum and +1 button ...If a thread has 10 pages and i click +1 on page 1 .....it does not reflect on the other pages ....i expect it to :)

More than anything, I am concerned about privacy. One reason why I rarely use the Like option in Facebook. The damn thing puts it right on your wall. Which is still fine. However, it atleast doesn't put up for unwanted people. I went through Google's page on plus one. First of all it says we need a Google profile. I don't have one to begin with - unless Google creates a default one. More importantly though, their privacy policy for plusone says that this information (name) may be shared publicly

from the documentation google does say that they use canonical url for +1. that means that all the pages of an individual thread should retain the same +1 number (just like facebook like button in this case).

this forum uses canonical urls but google +1 is not using it properly at least for now.

from what i see, you should +1 the page where you find useful information. i dont really need you to +1 all the pages of a good thread.

the data is shared with your social connections (just like on facebook). they might see your name with the links you +1 on their search results.

the idea is that they would be able to see WHO recommended that link increasing the trust factor.

as for public sharing of data... from what i have read about google +1... your +1s are going to be considered as a factor in global rankings of web pages even for users who are not logged in.

in that case, users are just likely to see that this link has been +1ed by x number of people. it would not show the names of all the x number of people. you are probably going to be just one of the x numbers adding to the overall weight.

Why can't the +1 button be put at the bottom of the page too? I mostly (only) use the go to first new post option, which means, I mostly am looking at the end of the page. Very rarely do I go above the first post, since the go to first new post always starts at the post and not at the top. Having the same button at the bottom would make it easier to use

I verified this by using a different account to browse the page. It works very similar to the Like button. It shows just the count and not the user name who +1d it. However, I am not sure about the criteria for displaying the usernames of those who +1d.

vBulletin has pre-defined sections to add your own code at several locations. the box at the top is one of those places.

i do a section at the bottom too but it is too down. i would try adding it there and see how visible it is.

i do not like the idea of having the same button at multiple locations. but i would see what i can do.

in any case, google is probably going to release browser extensions so that the button on the web pages are not even required. i am currently using an unofficial one mentioned above which works well for me. i guess someone would make one for opera too.

from my own experience, i only see names of people who are in my social connections list.

the fact remains google is still wounded from the buzz privacy fiasco. so they are taking user privacy a lot more seriously now.

had a discussion on the vbseo forum. realized that canonical urls on vB are not supposed to point to the first page of the thread. so individual pages would get their own google +1 shares.
