Everything related to messages I type on phone. Apps in PlayStore, Google search results and so on. Plus, no one in my contact list installed it even after a week.
I am wondering why Allo and Duo should fail. They are great alternative for Text chatting and Video calling by simple signing in with mobile number. Allo and Duo could well become iMessage and Facetime for Android (or it was planned for that).
I think only problem is Google enters market when there are already some established services available, and hence people don't want to change and try new service.
the problem with google's offerings is that they are replacing a much better product with a terrible one. and they are offering nothing new to people using competing products. why should i switch to allo or duo when existing products are working just fine. for someone like me using telegram, allo is a crippled mess. can't share files. can't access chats on a computer. they replicated the most successful group messaging app and are now expecting people to just leave it? when they have not left it for much better products?
allo is such a mess right now in my own personal experience... i cannot even use it to chat with people who have allo. their numbers show me the invite option. it takes a new level of incompetence for a messaging app to have a bug like this.
search and email are entirely different market as you are not dependent upon others for your own choice. i can use bing and it would not affect anyone i know. i can use yahoo mail and i can still send and receive mails from people using gmail. interoperability is the issue with group messaging. you do not make the choice for yourself. your friend circle makes the choice for you.
google has themselves to blame. they had the best client in the market in the form of talk and they let it rot after it became hangouts. it lost features like p2p file transfers and a decent desktop client when hangouts was released. it was so bad that even i decided to dump it for telegram. and i do not usually dump google branded products.
