so what exactly is the problem with Google developing more and more free services?!?!?

Hell, I love them for making Picasa free... what an awesome program! And as everyday passes, I lean more and more towards making gmail my primary e-mail account - the conversations view is just fantastic.

what is wrong with their search engine?

there isnt anything wrong with their seach engine.......its the BESTi think that they should keep improving it to keep it the besti was talking about some of the other services offered by google.in their rivalry with yahoo they are trying to become more of a portal instead of a search engine.look at what happened to altavistait was a great search engine but trying to offer many more services than just searching led to their downfall

you are forgetting a simple fact. not many companies can survive being a single product company. i would be worried if other companies can come up with a better search engine than google. in the last 3-4 years they have not.and google is developing products which are better than companies providing those products for like decades. gmail was one such example and google calendar has become a shiny new example.if you have ever tried using msn calendar or yahoo calendar you would realise how good google calendar is. and the main aim of developing these services is to extend what they already have, an amazing search engine technology. calendar becomes a part of the larger range of google services which would make us depend more on their websites.this would mean we spend more time on their websites, thus making more revenues for them in the longer run... money is important... and google does know that they are primarily a search engine company. but to stay competitive in today's online world... you have to continue innovating and they are doing just that!

google the search engine has no competetion instead it should compete with itself. im more intrested in the search engine provided by google. it should keep on improving on the search facilitieseg. local searchits my point of view.........i may be wrong

well the point is... what do you expect them to do next? you expect them to be able to provide local services for india? where we do not even have a decent yellow pages services?for them to offer local service in india, they would have to find a database... and updated database of all the businesses in india. and that is a complicated task with such an unorganised industry like ours. for maps, they again have to rely upon third party satellite information for countries which they can showcase in details. they can only use information which is accessible and which exists. :) when it comes to india, even the government would be clueless about our country's most extensive databases of information and map data ;)

thats trueIt would take some doing.......its very difficult if not impossible to provide many of the services in INDIAAs i said i may be wrongbut at least they can tryfor that the government has to get involvedwhich is next to impossible in a country in which 256k qualifies as broadband

Google postpones Google Calendar maintenance schedule Search engine giant Google had recently posted that they were going to conduct planned 13-hour maintenance of Google Calendar service. However, the plans have been postponed or rather scrapped for the time being as the announcement resulted in confusion for the end users of the service.
