what would be the point of getting the kindle fire when it is largely restricted to Amazon cloud services? some of the google cloud services at least work in india. and of course you get access to the official app store. and it's unlocked and is likely to get massive support from the third party developer's community?
Unlocking hasn't really been a big issue with any of the Androidtablets. Where the Fire scores over other Android tablets is the seamless experience with Amazon, and of course Amazon's backing. Google isn't as good as a seller when compared to the rest. The app store might be a question mark, but so far users seem to be doing pretty fine with what Amazon has to offer, considering they have got most of the major apps onto their store by luring the developers with better margins. We also saw the recent report which showed Amazon's ARPU is higher than Google, so it definitely is working for them.
errm. seemless experience with Amazon does not really matter at all if you are going to use the tablet here in india i mean google actually has movies available for viewing here in india! amazon does not. and google has been rumored to be working on a worldwide music deal with all the major labels. they are more likely to open google music store here in india than amazon!
Oh well I was talking from a general sales standpoint. While an Indian version is 'good to have', most of their revenue will come from US and Europe. As regards music labels, Amazon already has tie up with most of the major labels, and music sales through Amazon has always been popular, even before iTunes came along. On a worldwide scale, I still think Amazon has an edge over Google.
in america? of course. Amazon prime alone is a great reason to get the fire over 7. in the end it depends upon where the user has more content... amazon or google. google play being a newer player, amazon has a lot of leverage here. internationally? amazon has little market for fire and that is the reason why it remains a US only product until now. google has already launched 7 in four markets globally.
My only disappointment is the lack of an expansion slot. Other than that it's an awesome tab with great value for money. Google is selling it at a loss just to get some tablet market share but who cares as long as you're saving the money Now if only it had that expansion slot....EDIT: it has a micro USB slot right? Is it possible to add a SD or microSD card using that?
