Probably because they wanted to get their hands dirty with their own solution. If you see HDFC is promoting Google Pay for tap and pay feature.

hdfc could have integrated it with payzapp. icici does support samsung pay. so it's not exactly exclusive to imobile.

what is the process of removing card (tokenization) from Google Pay if we want? and what is the success rate of these payments?

hdfc is promoting jio pay and google pay for tokenized payment.

why hdfc wants us to enable international transactions though and are these txn considered e-commerce instead of POS?

for 5k+ payments can we do with card pin, how it will work with tap n pay?

lol noticed today that Google Pay supports icici card for tap payments. added card. went to the market. tried paying at a store. payment fails.

switched back to samsung pay. payment fails.
tried paying using card on nfc. fail.
tried paying using card through regular method. fails.
went to another store. same experience. card fails through all modes lol.

tried online on Amazon. worked. called icici helpline. no one picks up the phone. lol.

hopefully a temporary restriction. would check again tomorrow.
