I have Airtel in Maharashtra and look at it as a positive sign. If airtel is not able to offer roaming (ICRA) atleast they will provide GPRS/EDGE with full throttle..

I dont get it. I am a delhi airtel subscriber. Airtel has 3g waves in delhi ncr circle. I subscribe to their 3g services. Airtel makes a roaming agreement with say Vodafone for providing 3g in bangalore. Why shouldnt airtel and me be allowed if i am roaming in bangalore? isnt that how 2g roaming works?Obviously if i am local in bangalore and subscribe to airtel, it is illegal for airtel to use 3g waves from Vodafone.By the looks of the article even the 1st case looks set to be dropped.

So soon we will do not have airtel 3g in mp/cg circle ?

Airtel users from U.P.(east) too.

The telecom department will ask Bharti Airtel, India's largest mobile phone company, to stop providing third generation (3G) services 'within fifteen days' in seven circles where it does not have frequencies to provide high-end data services, an official aware of the development told ET. The company will also be asked to pay a penalty of 350 crore, or 50 crore in each of the seven regions where it provides 3G services through roaming pacts with its rival operators - Vodafone and Idea Cellular. It is learnt that the telecom department (DoT) is preparing similar notices for Vodafone and Idea Cellular.

Facepalm. This Telecom mess never seems to end.

Well the poor class does not need 3G and can easily manage with 2000 rs mobiles so why do we need 3G in India? Just charge a huge fine and stop with 3G/2G/AllG. And put a hefty tax on all other phones. Grrr.
