Has anyone tried making custom firmware for your ONT?

Not only for Airtel but even for other ISPs. I started a thread at OpenWrt forums for building a OpenWrt firmware for Nokia G-2425G-A (Build for Nokia G-2425G-A). But there are no open source xPON PHY drivers available (OpenWrt support for EN7528 based xPON router). And as the drivers in the firmware are in closed source binary form they are compiled for compatibility with the specific Linux kernel version(in this case 3.18.21)....

Can you send me the details how to get root access, I tried the config hack but still am getting regular non root account.
