cloudflare does not use your closest server if the website is not paying for pro. or argo from my understanding. warp+ might provide an option to use the most optimal route from consumer's end.

@vignesh_venkatesan Unfortunately, mine goes through Mumbai no matter what. It ends up with 500ms latency sometimes on BSNL FTTH.

However, Google DNS is correctly routed to the nearest active servers. 50ms latency in worst-case scenario on BSNL FTTH.

Like I already mentioned, even WARP+ goes through Mumbai for me even though I'm nearer to Delhi.

Google is directly peered with bsnl and so does the most of the isps in India so you wouldn't have problem with Google services.
But cloudflare doesn't have direct peering with bsnl and even my isp does not peer with cloudflare so I have about 21ms latency to Mumbai when I could have 5 ms latency to Chennai data center.

@vignesh_venkatesan We're strictly talking about DNS.
The problem is Google DNS works via anycast. But Cloudflare DNS ignores anycasting in my case. Which makes absolutely no sense, anycast is not related to peering setup at all, it's based on your IP's approximate location.
