Only authorised devices can be connected on a USB port in a STB. Currently for us this will be useful to launch external HDD for recording purposes without doing a STB exchange.

Hathway has now providing a new HD box for new subscribers. My cousing just got one and its about half the size of the one I got. Also it comes with a universal remote. Now I am really keen on a universal remote as I was well accustomed to using one on Airtel HD and the 2 separate remotes on Hathway currently are a quite an irritant. But the build quality of the new box is quite iffy and I really like the current box provided. Anyone using the new smaller box? Any heating or other issues? Wondering wether to upgrade to the new box for the sake of the universal remote. Any suggestions?

If you want only universal remote, you can pick it up from hathway office. Not sure how much they are going to charge.By the way new box has USB port and RJ45 port?

the fellow said that the universal remote works only on the new box and they would have to replace the box. They are checking if they can upgrade me as well.

is it possible to get a universal for the older boxes too?

re: USB and RJ45, I havent checked. Will have a look and post back.

I saw their universal remote ad when they launched HD in Oct end last year. The ad said send UR to 575759 for the universal remote. But I am not sure if it works with the HD boxes they launched initially.

Instead of selling HD-DVR boxes looks like they are selling small HD boxes.

There is an email id: [email protected] Probably you can email and check with them.

The new box has 2 USB ports, 1 HDMI, 1 spidf and one set AV.

No composite out and no RJ45 on this.

So, if at all hathway enables video on demand(like Tata Sky plus) in the future, these HD boxes won't support that. Well, it is possible if they enable USB port to support the wifi dongle.

I just got my new HD connection yesterday. It is the new STB - tiny weeny one and so is the remote (so small). However, both does the job well. Happy with the stuff. Just one complaint - They need to provide a longer HDMI cable than this lousy 1 meter one. Barely can connect to the TV. I would say it should be atleast 2 meter length allow some amount of flexibility.

Congrats :)By the way, are you facing any disturbance in MTunes HD channel? Voice breaks a lot in this channel and only this channel. I called the cable operator home and checked the signal. Everything seems to be fine. I was just wondering if others are also facing this issue. It is like voice goes off for a second. It happens once or twice every 2-3 minutes. You need to listen to it carefully to understand what I am saying.
