Hey Guys...recently my settings in router got screwed up when I enabled DMZ and since then I have been trying to restore internet connection to my desktop, laptop and consoles via the routerI have an airtel broadband connection and Beetal 220BXI modem (IP: 192.168.1.1 and connection set to PPPOE mode). Under LAN setup and have Enable DHCP server and IP range set as 192.168.1.3 - 192.168.1.3 and also the Static IP Lease list I have added the MAC address of the router and its IP address ( 00:0F:66:35:11:A1 & 192.168.1.3)Linksys Router BEFW11S4 (IP: 192.168.1.3) and have DHCP enabled and its range starting from 192.168.1.100.Connecting the beetal modem directly to my PC/Laptop I am able to connect to the internet but when I route it via the router...I am unable to connect to Internet.I tried pinging 192.168.1.1 when connected via router and it says host not reachable....Not really sure what the issue is....any help is really much appreciated..Thanks in advance...

You have both the modem and router on the same IP range, NAT'ing doesn't work that way. Your routers WAN IP (DHCP from the modem) is now 192.168.1.3 and gateway(modem) is 192.168.1.1. Whereas, the LAN side it(router) itself will act as 192.168.1.1. Hence, conflict. Set the Linksys' LAN to 192.168.2.1 with DHCP from 192.168.2.100, this method is called a double NAT. Should restore connectivity after that.

You don't need to enter 192.168.2.1 as the start IP, just set it to something in the 192.168.1.xxx range.

did what you told and now the net is working on the desktop...few questions though:
Now for any new hardware i connect for example X360 or PS3 I need to manually enter the ip address i.e. 192.168.14 till - 100? The default gateway would be the ip of the modem or router (192.168.1.1)?
Also would I face problems in port forwarding for utorrent and Xbox live stuff???
Finally howcome you told me not to connect the modem wire to the internet port of the router (thats how my connection was earlier before it stopped working)...

Good to know that it is working now.This method makes your router work like an "access point", simply put, it forwards all the data from the modem to the computers. It makes it invisible to the the PCs in the LAN.The reason why you need to plug the modem in the LAN port is because the internet port is effectively disabled in this setup, hence, is of no use.You will have to forward ports only on the modem for the connectability bit.Any further devices that will be connected will also work fine.
